Reporting Officer: Credit Risk Manager


Position Objectives

It is the primary objective of the Credit Analyst to protect the bank from Credit losses i.e. minimize credit risks and maximize profit since granting of credit is the largest source of income for the bank. He/she is responsible for the development, refinement and implementation of the Credit Risk Management framework in the bank and aligning it to the future needs and inline with Bank of Tanzania Risk Management Framework and market best practices. Reporting to the Credit Manager Risk, Credit Analyst will be accountable for the following:


Duties & Responsibilities;

The Credit Analyst is primarily responsible to effectively and efficiently receive, review, verify and analyse all customer loan applications submitted by Credit Officers/Credit Managers for approval by the Credit Committee.


The main responsibilities are:


  • Support Credit Risk Department management in business development and implementation of the business plan;
  • Responsible for monitoring and supervision of the borrowers reviewed, analysed and recommended for approval;
  • Liaise Credit Officers/Managers to ensure all loan applications submitted for review have all loan application documents as per the loan application checklist;
  • Ensure efficiency in reviewing customer loan applications to comply with the bank's turnaround time and compliance to Credit Policy and Credit Handbook/Manual;
  • Review and verify credit data, facts and figures presented in the customer loan application appraisal by Credit Officers/Managers and its compliance to five ‘C’s’ i.e. Capital, Character, Condition, Capacity and Collateral and are inline with bank's Credit Policy and Credit Handbook/Manual;
  • Ensure adequate identification of credit risks involved customer loan applications and suggest mitigation measure;
  • Ensure Credit Terms and Conditions approved by Credit Committee for all loans reviewed and approved are implemented as per Credit Committee approval;
  • Ensure business loan application form which includes collateral map, business map, list of business chattels and household goods are filled by Credit Officers/Managers have been completed and signed;
  • Maintaining and keep updated record on the client’s portfolio assigned from time to time.
  • Verify loan application documents i.e. Business licence, collateral documents, TIN numbers and other documents submitted if they are genuine;
  • Support Credit Officers/Managers on credit risk skills development with a focus on strong customer relationship and enhance service quality to bank's clients;
  • Facilitate the consultative sale of banks products and services and the identification and exploitation of business opportunities (existing customers and prospects);
  • Coordinating credit operations and personnel under his/her control (if applicable) and carrying out the various controls and follow-up along each step of the loan analysis and decision process;
  • Performing various support activities to promote the quality of analyses and administrative follow-up of the loan files under the portfolio assigned from time to time;
  • Get updated information about key issues, like compliance issues, market risk, and legal issues.
  • Help improving credit handbook for improved decision making;


Other tasks and responsibilities include:

  • Supporting personnel in their adjustment to change (i.e. new products and credit flow process and other working processes & procedures etc.);
  • Ensuring a sound and cautious approach to credit risk management;
  • Performing various activities to promote the quality of analyses and administrative follow-up of loan files and supporting the sale and offer of supplementary services;
  • Attend verification visits when/if required on snap check basis; and
  • Performance of any other related duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Credit Risk Manager/ Management.


Qualifications & Requirements (i.e. education, skills and experience)

The Credit Analyst requires good practical knowledge of Credit Risk Analysis and in-depth knowledge and experience in financial analysis. In this regard, specific qualifications and requirements include:

  • A Bachelor degree or Advanced Diploma in Accounting, Finance and other Business related studies;
  • A minimum of three years working experience in the area of Credit Origination, Risk and any other area in the Credit Risk Management of financial institutions/banks;
  • Strong interpersonal skills in a cross-cultural environment;
  • Knowledge of investigation and evidence gathering techniques;
  • Credit Analytical and problem solving skills;
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
