PowerCorner is providing sustainable, affordable and reliable energy services to rural populations in
Tanzania using a combination of key innovations: standardized, low-cost production units, a mini-grid
combined with smart prepaid meters and mobile money. PowerCorner is an ambitious and dynamic
internal start-up of ENGIE and a key initiative within its Energy Access program. Its core values are:
Empowerment, Respect, Determination and Open-mindedness. The 4 mini-grids have been
commissioned so far connecting 600 customers both households and small businesses. PowerCorner is
currently developing additional mini-grids and looking for a sales coordinator to support project
developments and operations at Western Cluster.
Under the general supervision of the Cluster Manager, the Sales Coordinator will perform the following
➢ Community mobilization: Raise awareness on options for using electricity beyond basic needs
such as light, phone charging and TV/radio, and the economic and social benefit of productive
uses. This include execute several village meeting and promotions to make sure the commercial
offer is clearly understood, propose ways to improve the commercial offer etc. Organize
formal/informal consultations to help and encourage existing customers to identify and start new
business ideas or expand or diversify existing ones (eg: providing services such as use of
computers, sports & films on TV, phone charging, barbershops, etc.
➢ Conducting field interventions: site assessments, energy surveys and demand assessment. Based
on field assessments and study reports, propose a field intervention to implement appropriate
marketing strategies for electricity and electrical appliances. This includes: acquisitioning and
retaining of customers, facilitate use electricity for domestic and productive activities (electricity
availability, metering and tariffs and methods of payment, safety, load management, etc)
➢ Technical Assistance (TA): Provide technical assistance services in the form of technical training
and coaching to help customers make informed decisions on selection and purchase of electrical
equipment, operation of the new equipment and machineries and basic maintenance. This will
also include facilitation after sale services and provide information on warranties, maintenance
servicing, and provision of spare parts, safety precautions and energy-efficient use.
➢ Access to finance or appliances: Support customers to access the required finance to invest in
the electrical appliances and machineries required for either domestic or productive uses. We
expect the Sales Coordinator to propose best option to access finance or appliances (whether
though loans or other means) and work in close collaboration with the Commercial team and
Cluster Manager in this matter. For those customers that will access loans to fund appliances, the
Sales Coordinator will also oversee customer loan appraisal and monitoring repayment.
➢ Supervision of all Local Operators under this project, capacity building on the topic of business
skills and entrepreneurship
➢ Monitoring and reporting on key indicators as defined by the Cluster Manager and on the growth
of Cluster supported through the Power Corner Tanzania
Required Academic Qualification & Experience
➢ Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Entrepreneurships, Rural Development, Marketing and Public
Relation, Electrical, Economics or related field from a reputable institution
➢ Minimum of two years’ experience in relevant field (energy project development, operations, or
financing; or experience in early-stage entrepreneurship (and/or)
➢ Experience as an early-stage business building as an entrepreneur, or other service provider e.g.
➢ Experience working with rural and off-grid business models and technologies, and an
understanding of unique challenges faced by businesses operating in Tanzania
➢ Good team building and motivational skills with an ability to work with a diverse mix of
professionals and deliver.
➢ Strong Analytical & Problem-Solving skills
➢ Strong communication skills, both oral and written (Swahili and English)
➢ Ability to see the big picture and connect the dots.
➢ A can-do and collaborative mindset – comfortable with the ambiguities and demands of a rapidly
evolving and entrepreneurial environment with a team from diverse backgrounds.
