Job Description

Role & Description: Senior Accountant to deliver on the country finance function of monthly accounting and reporting, financial and market analysis.

The successful candidate will possess accounting and high analytical skills, keen eye for detail, controls/process oriented with a proven track record and ability to work under minimal supervision; highly versatile with ability to work in a very rapidly growing and changing environment requiring resourcefulness and drive to deliver results.

 

Reporting: Group CFO

Peer / Lateral Relationships: liaises and works closely with finance team members

Direct Reports:         Country Manager

 

Role Context:            

The Senior Accountant will be in charge of accounting, reporting and business analysis. S/he will oversee aspects of accounting and reporting and deliver on the finance role of providing accurate, insightful and on time financial and non-financial information on the country.

S/he will be charged with formulating working financial systems on internal controls and supporting the country manager in making finance related decisions.

 

Areas of Responsibility 

a) Prepare monthly financial reports (P&L, Balance sheet and Cash-flow) e.t.c

  • Analyze the accuracy of reports presented; revenue assurance and correct accounting
  • Provide benchmark revenue compared to budgets
  • Incorporate actual performance into analyses of forecasts

 

b) Work with the technology team and commercial teams to analyze customer metrics

  • Ensure implementation of the customer metrics dashboard

 

c) Work with the commercial teams to formulate working models that can be used for pricing and investment business cases

 

d) Prepare and report on weekly snapshots on country performance

 

e) Work with the commercial teams in the coordination of planning and budgeting process by;

  • Ensuring timely planning is done, the principles are understood and well-articulated in the plans with assumptions that are easy to understand and are achievable

 

g) Support implementation of treasury functions in the business; cash-flow management, bank operations and reconciliations

g) Prepare and file Tax returns and ensure full statutory compliance of the business.

 

People & Structure

Growing a finance function, through identification of gaps to be filled and required training to personnel.

 

Internal Customers

Furnish the country management and GMT with reports per core role function and ad hoc requests that may be made to facilitate decision making.

 

Key Performance Indicators

  • Insight rich monthly core finance reports (P&L, Balance sheet and Cash-flow) and other internal monthly reports ensuring these are sent to the group by 7th of the month
  • Implement a monthly country customer metrics dashboard that is analyzed against financial performance
  • Identification and implementation of monthly accounting close out procedures that are adhered to
  • Weekly review and management of cash-flows; receivables, payables and bank relationships
  • Engage and coordinate country audits
  • Ensuring compliance with timely tax deductions and remittance on all tax elements

 

Required Competencies

  • A first degree in accounts, finance or other relevant business degree with CPA/ ACCA qualifications
  • Knowledge of general accounting procedures
  • Accounting experience in a supervisory role or in an audit firm
  • Computer skills including the ability to operate spreadsheet and ERPs
